What is Clinical Research?
Clinical Research in its simplest form is that area of medicine that addresses the many questions that have not been answered by recorded medicine. Some of those questions are of a mechanistic (why does this disease occur?), diagnostic (how do you identify this disease?) or therapeutic (what is the best way to treat this disease?) nature.
Clinical Research as defined by Wikipedia:
Clinical research is the branch of medical science that determines the safety and effectiveness of medications, devices, diagnostic products and treatment regimens intended for human use. These may be used for prevention, treatment, diagnosis or for relieving symptoms of a disease. Clinical Research is different than clinical practice. In clinical practice, one used established treatments while in clinical research evidence is collected to establish a treatment.

National and International guidelines are followed to ensure the safety and confidentiality of ALL its patients. This process involves securing approval from the appropriate “Investigational Review Board” that serves as an extension of the FDA in monitoring that each study is ethical and is conducted in a like fashion. WOMB is also frequently involved in studies that receive more direct FDA involvement. Sometimes that involvement is in the initial design of the study yet at other times it is to make sure the study is conducted in the safest fashion.
